MAAT – Museu de Arte, Arquitectura e Tecnologia
Opened in the summer of 2016, the MAAT, is Lisbon’s most recent cultural proposal.
Designed by the British architect Amanda Levete, the building has approximately three thousand square meters for exhibitions and events, aiming to be a space where discovery, critical thinking and international dialogue come together.
This incredible new building, with boasting views over the river is connected with the former Museu da Electricidade, Central Tejo, one of Portugal’s most prominent industrial architectural works from the first half of the 20th century.
This ambitious project by the EDP Foundation, presents both Portuguese and international exhibitions, presenting different views of the Foundation EDP Art Collection.
Pedro Gadanho is the director of the museum, an architect who was in the last couple of years the contemporary architecture curator at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.
The museum includes also a restaurant overlooking the 25 de Abril Bridge, and the possibility of walking all over the building. The outside staircase comes down, all the way to the Tejo, creating a large public space that everyone can visit.
